Day 6: Etosha National Park
A full day of game viewing in Etosha National Park. The park was proclaimed in 1907 and still is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. Its definite feature is the Etosha Pan, a vast, shallow depression of approximately 5000km˛. For the greater part of the year this pan is a bleak expanse of white cracked mud, which shimmers with mirages on most days. Seeing vast herds of game against this eerie backdrop, referred to in the local vernacular as the “great white place of dry water”, makes the Etosha game viewing experience unique.

Proceed to Windhoek, Namibia’s capital, a small but bustling city with a population of approximately 300 000, situated in an airy basin in the central highlands of Namibia. Windhoek is often described as a city with a “continental” atmosphere. This can be ascribed to its architecture - historical buildings dating back to German colonial rule - as well as to its cuisine, culture, dress and educational institutions. At the same time Windhoek has the color, sounds and tempo of a modern African city.
High up on a hill above the city of Windhoek, the unique Hotel Thule offers unsurpassed mountain views, an exclusive getaway, and warm hospitality. It offers the relaxing pleasures of a remote country estate. Yet, it is only five minutes away from the heart of the cosmopolitan city of Windhoek. Hotel Pension Thule used to be a luxury villa on top of a hill, with a wonderful view of the Auas Mountains and valleys.
