|
On your arrival at the Windhoek International Airport you will be met and transferred into town for the handover of your rental vehicle.
Overnight at the Casa Blanca Boutique Hotel, situated in a quiet suburb of Windhoek.

In addition there is an elegant lounge, a sparkling pool in a beautiful garden, a Jacuzzi, a barbeque area and a cozy bar. The homely restaurant serves sumptuous breakfasts and romantic patio dinners at sunset.
Windhoek is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Namibia. It is located in the central Khomas Region, and has a population of about 300 000.
The hot springs attracted the first settlers to this area. In the mid-1800s Captain Jan Jonker Afrikaner settled near one of the main hot springs, located in the present-day Klein-Windhoek, an upper-class suburb of Windhoek.
After 1907, development accelerated as people migrated from the countryside to the city and also some immigrated from outside the country. There was also a larger influx of European settlers arriving from Germany and South Africa. Businesses were erected on Kaiser Street, present Independence Avenue, and along the dominant mountain ridge over the city, including the three eye-catching castles.

Day 4: Kalahari Gemsbok National Park
|
|
The Kalahari is not a true desert as it has huge tracts of excellent grazing after good rains and is rather a grass savannah.
The Kalahari basin covers much of Botswana, parts of Namibia and the north western parts of South-Africa.
The Kalahari is the traditional hunting ground for the San people or Bushmen, who have lived here for more than 20 000 years, surviving on hunting game with bows and arrow and gathering edible plants like berries, melons and nuts as well as insects.
On 31 July 1931 the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park was established to protect the migrating game, especially the gemsbok or oryx from poaching.
The park is well-known for its high numbers of black mane lions, cheetah, leopards and big hers of blue wildebeest, springbuck and other antelopes.
On 12 May 2000 the park became part of the Kgalagadi Transforntier Park.
Accommodation is offered in various camps within the park. The chalets are all well equipped, but as no restaurants or shops are available, you have to bring your supplies and prepare your own meals.
For the roads within the park we highly recommend a 4x4 vehicle.
